The tower of Tain Parish Church, really is a landmark, reaching up high above the town. It was a delight to be asked to carry out an inspection and prepare a report on the condition of this beautifully crafted building.

The detail at each corner of the building is very detailed and ornate. Its always the bits of the building that people cant see that hide defects. Thank goodness the sun came out and I could enjoy the view.

A conservation architect has the privilege of visiting the parts others don't get to see. Climbing up the tower and wandering round the cavernous attic spaces seems like a movie set for the Hunch Back of Notre Dame.

Access can be a bit of a challenge though, there was no such think as health and safety regulations in the Victorian era. A sense of balance and a head for heights is definitely a requirement.
