Schools were an integral part of the work of the Scottish Episcopal Church in the Highlands. Bishop Eden's School was purpose built as a Girls’ School to replace the hall in Academy Street, where they had been located since 1854.The school includes an attached schoolmasters house.
The Boys’ School was originally built adjacent to the Cathedral in 1871.The two schools were merged in 1943, the resulting mixed primary school.
The buildings were extensively "renovated" in the late 1960's. The architecture has been disfigured gothic stonework and windows have been squared off and modern square windows introduced. The building fabric has been compromised by modern cement and flat roofing materials that have resulted in extensive damage.
MAAC studio have carried out detailed assessment of the building fabric and identified the work that needs to done to repair with the legacy of these mistakes.
