We were delighted to welcome Craig Frew to our site at St Johns Chapel on the Black Isle to deliver a training workshop on hot lime mortars.

Craig Frew workshop hot lime Inverness

Hot lime has been a technique that has become increasingly significant in the conservation landscape as we learn more about historic materials and methods of workmanship. The Scottish Lime Centre have been pulling together and analysing data from over 5000 mortar samples that they have tested of the last 20 years, to reveal some fascinating results.

The Event was organised by our contractor, Andrew Beattie, and was an opportunity for us to share some of the discussions that we been having on site regarding mix specification and application. Architects and craftsmen bring different perspectives to the project. Respecting complimentary expertise that we each bring, and being prepared to share our views in a constructive environment, helps to keep us focused on delivering a great outcome for the project.

The workshop was delivered to an audience of stonemasons from local firms and from Historic Environment Scotland. It was a great opportunity to get the latest information that is going to be published by HES in upcoming technical papers.
