PAS 2035 Retrofit Co-ordinator Service

You will be hearing a lot about a new standard called PAS 2035 over the next few years. This standard governs how retrofit projects should proceed. It is a cornerstone of the UK Governments climate change strategy when it comes to insulating and improving homes.

.

Retrofitting existing homes with insulation is a technically complex process and there have been many failures resulting in mould, rot and other problems. These failures became so common that in 2016 the government commissioned a report called every Home Counts to investigate the matter.

The report identified the causes of the failures and made recommendations that would guide activities in the future. The outcome was the development of PAS 2035, this provides the framework on which all government funded and grant aided work will be carried out. In order to satisfy the requirements of the standard, project co-ordinators must undergo specialist training run by the Retrofit Academy leading to a level 5 NVQ certificate which will then lead to accreditation.

Retrofit is a particular challenge when dealing with traditional stone built buildings in order to ensure that the traditional materials are not damaged or compromised by modern insulating materials.

We are pleased to announce that Calum Maclean completed the level 5 NVQ course in 2021 and we are now able to offer the full PAS 2035 Retrofit Co-ordination and design service for traditional and historic properties, ensuring that they will be treated with appropriate care and respect.
