After spending ages trying to work out how to create a panorama image on computer I eventually gave up and decided to do by hand. It has been a while since I have done anything more than a quick 10 second sketch, everything seems to be digital these days.

Sketching the architecture of Alexander Ross

After hunting out my pens and brushes it was time to get started. I miss drawing by hand! A couple hours later and its done, just as well, as it was getting dark. I’m a bit rusty but I wont beat myself up too much, I would have spent days trying to do this on a computer.

The image is not a view that can be seen or photographed in real life. The street bends away from you so I had to bend reality a bit to get both the St Andrews Cathedral and Ness Walk into the same image.

Why ? You might ask. Will, I am looking for an illustration for a new book on the life and work of Alexander Ross. He was the architect for the whole of this quarter of the city, so everything from the Ness Bridge to the Cathedral and beyond.

The first draft of the book is ready and is currently out for peer review. We still have a long way to go but this is a significant milestone.

Plenty of to think about whether this is going to be the cover for the published edition.
