The cathedral was completed in 1869 and as well as being the most northerly cathedral on the British mainland it was also the first protestant cathedral to be built in Britain since the reformation in 16th Century.

The cathedral designed at the time when Violet le Duc was restoring Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. While St Andrews is not on the same scale, there are nevertheless familiar features in the composition and detailing.

150 years of highland weather has taken its toll on the building fabric and we are assisting the congregation to prepare comprehensive fabric investigations, a programme of repairs and by helping to source funding for the works.

In tandem with the repair works, we are working with the Cathedral to develop a plan to transform their work, by creating new facilities that will engage with the community and visitors.
