Alexander Ross is one of the most celebrated architects in the Highlands. Throughout the Victorian period he created many wonderful buildings that defined the character of the towns and villages across the North.

When his father died at 19, Alexander Ross had a difficult start to his career, struggling to find his feet in the harsh Victorian business environment. He not only survived, he demonstrated a creative skill and ingenuity that would propel him to the top of his profession.

Inspired by the latest innovations and ideas from the continent, he shaped the city of Inverness into a modern European city, developing many of the most important streets and buildings in the city centre.

We will be presenting an illustrated talk on the life and work of Alexander Ross for the Saltire Society at the end of March.
