Congratulations to our founder and managing director Calum Maclean, who this achieved Advanced Accreditation in Architectural Conservation from the Royal Incorporation of Architects in Scotland.

This is an honour indeed and acknowledgment of the years of dedication to protecting our historic buildings and helping communities to adapt them for their needs in the 21st Century.
It takes a minimum of 5 years at an accredited university and 2 years in professional practice to become a chartered architect.
It then takes a minimum 5 years of practice working on historic buildings, attending specialist courses and studying and a submission of case studies for peer review, to become an Accredited Conservation Architect.
It then takes a minimum of another 5 years of continued study, practicing on historic buildings, engagement with communities and policy makers and the submission of further case studies, for peer review, to achieve Accreditation at Advanced level.

Calum Maclean said “Its daunting putting yourself forward for peer review. Its is a lengthy process, as experts in your field scrutinise projects that you have undertaken and pose searching questions about your methods of work. Now that it is done, I feel a sense of relief, but also a sense of satisfaction that having been examined in detail by recognised experts in conservation, people that I respect, my work has been found to meet the standards required for the highest level of accreditation.”
Calum joins a small group of 46 other architects in Scotland with Advanced Accreditation in Conservation, but this will not change our outlook or approach. We will continue to champion small communities, social enterprises and voluntary groups who care for our built heritage. It is a requirement for work on Grade A listed buildings that receive funding from Historic Environment Scotland and will ensure that communities based in the Highlands have access to the full range of professional services they need, on their doorstep.
